Piper is working towards her MRM at Simon Fraser University in the School of Resource and Environmental Management. She recently completed a Bachelor of Environment at SFU, majoring in Resource and Environmental Management (Planning stream) and minoring in Indigenous studies. Piper also holds a Certificate in Sustainable Community Development. During her undergrad, she completed three co-op terms with Fisheries and Oceans Canada, working in Indigenous Relations and Environmental Planning positions. Piper’s research will focus on Indigenous Peoples’ role in critical mineral development for Canada’s low-carbon energy transition, focusing on how Canadian policy supports or creates barriers for Indigenous environmental justice.
Piper is involved in a project called "Critical Justice: Understanding Indigenous peoples’ role in energy transition mineral development in Canada" with Jonathan Boron and Dr. Andreanne Doyon.
