Katarina’s two passions academically and personally are environmental and Indigenous issues in Canada. Throughout her studies, she has become solution-oriented in the climate change discussion and has become especially interested in community energy planning. These interests are what brought her to the Master of Environmental Studies program at York University, and she is expected to graduate in August 2020.
Katarina completed her International Bachelor of Arts in Political Science & Business at York University in 2015. After graduation, she began to work in the Research department at the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB) producing grey literature to influence Canadian policy and support Indigenous business owners. During her master’s program, she continues to work at CCAB part-time, practice her French, and volunteer at a political organization in her riding.
Katarina is providing research support for a project entitled: “Post COVID19 Indigenous Economic Recovery: Reconciliation in the Energy Transition” under the supervision of Christina Hoicka
