Shawn Leroux is an Associate Professor of Biology at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Dr. Leroux's research integrates mathematical modelling and empirical studies to predict the effects of human activities on ecosystem functioning. Dr. Leroux is a leader in the emerging field of spatial ecosystem ecology and he has broad experience working with diverse stakeholders to apply theory to natural resource management. Specifically, his research on Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) and moose (Alces alces) has shaped the management policies for these species in Newfoundland and Labrador, and his research on forest fire has shaped protected area policies in Ontario, Quebec, Yukon and the Northwest Territories.
