Sustainable Prosperity (SP) is Canada’s major green economy think tank and policy-research network.

SP is seeking a talented communications entrepreneur as its Communications Director to help take this successful organization to a new level. A key role is to work with prominent leaders from business, environment and universities on a major new initiative to build a greener, stronger economic future for Canada.

Introducing Sustainable Prosperity: A Think Tank. A Do Tank.

Sustainable Prosperity (SP) is a national green economy think tank/do tank. It brings together top Canadian and global experts, along with business, environment and policy leaders. SP harnesses leading-edge thinking to advance innovation in policy and markets, in the pursuit of a greener, more competitive Canadian economy. At the same time, it actively brokers real-world solutions by bringing public and private sector actors to the table with experts to craft innovative policy ideas – to advance both the environment and economy. Since 2008, SP has built itself into Canada’s top green economy research network and think tank.

In the coming year, SP will launch a game-changing new initiative: a bold vision and roadmap to make Canada a global green economic leader within a generation – directed by prominent CEOs from business, NGOs, labour and Aboriginal organizations (names will be provided to short list candidates). Communications will be a critical part of this. Working with two of Canada’s most experienced communications experts and strategists and internal staff, SP’s Director of Communications will lead the development and execution of communications strategies for this new initiative and other ongoing SP projects.

Housed within the Institute of the Environment at the University of Ottawa, Sustainable Prosperity is an independent, well-funded organization. Sustainable Prosperity is seeking a:

Communications Director
Location: Ottawa, ON

Applications are being accepted for an accomplished communications professional who has at least 5 – 9 years of experience, ideally in an “in-house” leadership role within a complex (number and variety of constituents) entity. The ability to take knowledge and transform it into exciting and useful messages, and disseminate it to the right audiences through the best distribution channels is critical.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the successful candidate will lead Sustainable Prosperity’s communications efforts and build SP’s profile as a think and do tank. He/she will be responsible for creating and executing high impact, integrated communications, branding, and media relations strategies to align with SP’s vision. The Director will have responsibility for implementing this strategy, including overseeing design and production of policy reports, info-graphics, and other communications products; overseeing website development and social media outputs; developing and implementing a strategy to disseminate SP’s key messages; and coordinating media-relations activities and personnel. The Director will also liaise closely with communications teams in partner organizations.
