In June 2026, the Smart Prosperity Institute participated in Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s national consultation on the Next Policy Framework (NPF).
The NPF is an upcoming five-year federal, provincial, and territorial investment that aims to strengthen and grow the agriculture and agri-food sector and will succeed the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership. Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada is leading a national consultation process to gather feedback on the challenges and opportunities facing the sector to help develop the new framework and guide its priorities and vision.
We were glad to contribute a written submission to this consultation that addresses key questions about how best to build a stronger and more competitive agri-food sector in Canada.
In an era when Canada faces significant climate, market, and political variability, the Smart Prosperity Institute recommends that resilience be recognized as a key focus of the NPF, which must prioritize opportunities that simultaneously support the economic and environmental resilience of Canadian farmers.
