Topic: Landmark U.N. Biodiversity Report with Lead Co-Author

On May 6th, the U.N. Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) launched a landmark report which highlighted the global plight of wildlife and ecosystems, and proposed bold actions to conserve them. An in-depth global synthesis of trends in biodiversity, it found that nearly 1 million species – about 25% of those studied – are threatened with extinction due to various types of human activities. The report includes a powerful call to transform our global financial and economic systems towards sustainability.
On Tuesday, May 21 from 1-2 pm EDT Dr. Kai Chan – coordinating lead author of the Report – will discuss his firsthand experience working on this report and negotiating its global release in Paris. He will discuss the report’s findings and its implications for Canada, with a particular eye on solutions.
