Mercedes Marcano has a BA in Liberal Studies from Universidad Metropolitana in Venezuela and a Master's in Public and International Affairs from the University of Ottawa. While living in Venezuela she worked and volunteered for a number of environmental NGOs, primarily focusing on water and forest conservation and awareness campaigns among youth. At the University of Ottawa, Mercedes enrolled in environmental economics and policy courses where she became interested in how economic instruments can be used to solve environmental problems. Mercedes has worked in both the private sector as a CSR intern and in the public sector as an analyst. During her time at Smart Prosperity Institute she’s written a report on the state of Ontario’s environmental markets and has contributed to the development of numerous products. In her free time, Mercedes enjoys cooking, biking and spending time outdoors discovering Canada's stunning natural landscapes.
