Atkinson Foundation

Project Funder

A progressive advocate, investor and grantmaker for 75 years, the Atkinson Foundation was established in 1942 by Joseph E. Atkinson. He was the publisher of the Toronto Star, Canada’s largest daily newspaper. More than $68 million has been invested in Ontario over seven decades to advance his vision of an equitable society.

Atkinson aspires to be a:

Responsive and proactive grantmaker. We’re open to new opportunities and also seek them out.

Collaborative advocate for pragmatic solutions. We’re engaged in creating and promoting a shared vision of decent work.

Creative partner in civic engagement. We’re about organizing and mobilizing people across interests, disciplines and sectors.

Strategic mission-based investor. We’re committed to working with other shareholders to have collective impact.
